I ask myself this as I
\n
sit at a window
\n
In what is, to me
\n
A Holy Place.
\n
I can feel tears inside my face.
\n
As I sit at this small black table
\n
Surrounded by books and shelves of books
\n
A man in a blue shirt ascends
\n
He does not disturb my search
\n
My questioning.
\n
A yellow strip of plastic
\n
like police tape, flutters
\n
It cares not who I am.
\n
Now blue shirt crouches
\n
near my thought.
\n
He disturbs my search for self
\n
but only briefly.
\n
He is not offensive, just too close.
\n
He retreats, and I ask again,
\n
Who am I?<\/p>\n
\n
of this Holy Place,
\n
Fluttering around my ears,
\n
Capering in and out of
\n
Thick yellow unevenly cut pages?
\n
Do I aspire to
\n
their divinity?
\n
That was the goal.
\n
but is it in me?
\n
is it innate?
\n
is it real?
\n
Am I waiting for it to emerge
\n
Or do I seek out who I am
\n
by writing?
\n
At times, I feel I have
\n
given up
\n
sold out
\n
sold myself short. <\/p>\n
\n
writing
\n
warmed by the sun through
\n
the window
\n
of this Holy Place
\n
Where I returned by train
\n
by foot
\n
by memory
\n
by instinct
\n
I read and write and ask
\n
Who am I?<\/p>\n

Why?<\/p>\n
